Day 2 operations
Use this page to choose the right operational action after a Compose deployment is running. The Compose deployment guide remains the only command reference.
Check health and status
Use the status procedure to check whether the
deployment is READY, DEGRADED, or STOPPED. READY confirms the deployment
and its worker, not the reachability or validity of a registered source or
destination.
For service output and run failures, use the log procedure. The output is bounded and redacted; do not substitute a local development-stack troubleshooting procedure for this Compose deployment route.
Choose stop, restart, or reset
The stop, restart, and reset procedure defines the effects and safeguards of each action:
stopstops all services while preserving containers and volumes. Usestartto resume the deployment, including its dependencies.restartreplaces only the API and worker processes while preserving durable records. The deployment's dependencies must already be running.resetremoves this instance's containers, network, and volumes. It is destructive.
Before planned maintenance, coordinate submissions and check known runs. After resuming, verify a retained configuration version to check product state as well as deployment health.
Use reset only when you intend to discard the deployment state. To replace this alpha, follow the replacement procedure: it has no in-place migration, backup, or restore procedure, and the replacement starts with a new identity and empty state.
Handle credentials safely
Credentials belong in operator.env; packages contain references rather than
credential values. Follow the configuration prerequisites
when adding or changing a source or destination credential, then use start as
the operator sequence specifies
to recreate services with their new environment. restart retains the
environment the containers already had.
There is no qualified credential-rotation procedure at this release head. In particular, the API principal has no automatic rotation: the existing Use it guidance states that nothing rotates it for the operator.
Never source operator.env or put a credential on a command line. Keep values
out of logs, shell history, and configuration packages.
Reconcile an uncertain write
Do not retry a write whose outcome is unknown. Use the uncertain-write reconciliation procedure: read the terminal run record, inspect the destination, then create a fresh plan that reflects the destination's current state. The earlier run is not reopened.
